Seniors Helping Seniors and their Communities

Grant Name:  Seniors Helping Seniors and their Communities

Project Size: $10,000 annually

Grant Amount: $2,000 (2016), $4,000 (2017)

Strategic Value:  Community Support, Quality of life for Seniors

A long-time resident of Saranac Lake initiated Seniors Helping Seniors with a mission to provide enrichment to Seniors by supporting their creative and philanthropic interests while making meaningful contributions to the local community. She believes that encouraging seniors to maintain an active role in the community elevates their own well-being by helping others. Seniors hand make quilts, blankets, baskets, scarves, and other items for local daycares, nursing homes, and the chronically ill.  They also provide products and services to residents of long term care facilities. This provides seniors with a sense of accomplishment and self-worth, while serving others.  A healthy lifestyle is encouraged for seniors, and they are now working to expand their efforts into nutritional education and a gardening program as well.

Grant Analysis:

Goals for 2016 were met and exceeded, and a second grant request was approved by Cloudsplitter for expanding the program in 2017.
